Jason told us all year last year that he wasn't going to learn to ride his bike without training wheels until he turned 5, but, a month or so before his birthday, he decided it would be cooler to learn before he turned 5. We didn't ask questions, we just took the training wheels off his bike and went with it. You could try and try to reason with this kid, but, until something is his idea, he won't do it, so, we figured we better take advantage of his excitement right then. Chris practiced with him for a while in the morning, and later that afternoon they called me outside to show off his progress. He did great! He went all the way to the end of the street and back. After that, it was hard to keep him off of his bike. He's been riding ever since!
All of the other kids were just enjoying the fact that the snow was mostly gone so they could play in the weeds again. I will be so sad when they start building around us! I love that the kids love to play and explore outside, and that (for now) they have plenty of undeveloped space to do that in!
